Biography

Tabea Ott has been an assistant professor of medical ethics and diaconal studies and deputy director of the Institute for Ethics and Law in Medicine at the University of Vienna since 2026. Previously, from 2021 to 2025, she was a doctoral candidate and postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Systematic Theology II (Ethics) at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), including in the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center 1483 EmpkinS. From July to August 2023, Tabea Ott was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Social Research in Health and the Vitalities Lab at UNSW Sydney. Since 2025, Tabea Ott has been an associate researcher in the “Digital Religion(s)” cluster at the University of Zurich and, since 2026, at FAU. She studied Protestant theology, German language and literature, and education (2019: B.A., 2021: 1st state examination) in Erlangen, Cluj-Napoca, Aberdeen, and Munich.

For her work, she has been awarded the Ernst Wolf Prize by the Society for Protestant Theology (GET) (2021), the Young Scholar's Paper Award from the Societas Ethica (2022), first place in the Science Prize for Dialogue between Natural Science and Theology from the Görres Society and Apfelbaum Foundation (2025), and several prizes from Friedrich-Alexander University (2021 and 2023).

Among other things, she was a scholarship holder of the Max Weber Program (2016-2021), the Ariadne Program of Friedrich-Alexander University (2021-2022), the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt), an institute of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (2024-2025), and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2026).
